GRIP is an IUP-recognized student organization, but the ministry is sponsored by Grace United Methodist Church. Though we reach out to students on campus through 12:12, there are many students who prefer a more ‘traditional’ setting for worship. If this is you, we invite you to join us at Grace on Sunday mornings at either 9 am (traditional service) or 11 am (contemporary service). Conveniently located within walking distance from campus, you’ll find us at the corner of S. 7th and Church Streets. The great thing about Grace is that it’s easy to find: while on campus, look around for the tall white steeple and you’ve found us!
In that being a college student often means being away from home, we strive to provide you with opportunities to become a part of our family and be your home away from home. Here are just a few ways we try to meet those needs:
Adopt-a-Student: Sometimes the hardest part of going somewhere new is walking in and not knowing anyone. Who do I sit with? What do I do while I’m waiting for the service to start? Is there anyone here who cares? One way we try to get new students connected is with the Adopt-a-Student program. No, it doesn’t involve legal documents…we just try to provide you with an individual or family in the church who are interested in helping you feel at home. This relationship can range from simply sitting in the pew together, to going over to their house for a meal, watching a game, going to Walmart or even giving you a place to stay in a pinch! Sign up by contacting Karen, the Director of Campus Ministry, or in the Welcome Center located on the main floor of Grace Church.
Get involved! Did you sing in your church choir at home? Play handbells or another instrument? Do you have a gift for cooking or running sound? Did you help with the nursery or teach Sunday School? That doesn’t have to end when you go to college! We’re ready to utilize the gifts God has given you to serve Him and further His Kingdom. Let us know what you are passionate about doing and we’ll get you connected!
